Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to explore the English Romantic period in the context of the social, political, and intellectual revolutions. We will read primarily the poetry of the period and the poets’ sense of their occupation; we will also read one novel, Frankenstein, in order to understand the Romantic context more fully. The goal of this course is to delve into the ways in which the Romantic poets express their understanding of their worlds.

Approaches: lectures, presentations, group discussions, exams

Requirements and Grading
1.  Attendance (10%): You are required to attend each class; two absences are allowed; for each additional absence, five points will be deducted from your finale score. If you are late twice, that counts as one absence.
2. Presentations (15%): Each student has to analyze one piece of literary work for the class by using power point slides as presentation aid.
3 Participations in class discussions: (5%): It is mandatory that students propose questions and answers them in class.
4. Examinations (70%): Two exams, one midterm and one final (35% each).
