一、課程目標Course objectives:
(請任課教師具體說明課程目標,並加強與核心能力關聯的論述。)
This course is designed to enhance students’ four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. With this class, students will be provided with enough learning materials to become more confident with their English abilities and be able to communicate with others in English. Another objective of this course is to provide skills for students to pass GEPT Intermediate Level or other English language proficiency tests. To help students reach these objectives, English classes will be taught in English.
Students should be able to:  understand English syntax (reading/writing) and use correct daily English conversation and pronunciation, to carry on a conversation by topics specified by the instructor (speaking/listening);  learn how to use self-motivation as a tool to improve themselves educationally; and  have confidence in their own English ability.
The language skills focused upon will increase with each year of the program. In Year 1, courses are conducted to increase students’ abilities in listening and reading. In Year 2, listening, reading and speaking. In Year 3, students will be trained in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
It is hoped each student will gain individual confidence and competence in his/her English abilities through in-class activities, Reading for Pleasure, English Corner, and any other outside activities students find beneficial for their English growth.

三、授課方式Teaching approach:
Students will engage in student-to-student interaction. The course teaching approach will vary by instructor; however, many classes will include: in-class lectures, group or individual discussions, student-to-teacher discussions, student-to-student conversations, peer activities, presentations, Reading for Pleasure, and English Corner participation. 四、評量方式Grading criteria:(含評量項目及所佔比例,請運用多元評量)
Grading will be calculated as 60%, 20% and 20%.
Sixty percent (60%) will be based on any or all of the following: online/printed material presented to students by the instructor, in class quizzes, tests, mid-term exam, final exam, individual and group work, any in-class or homework assignments.
Twenty percent (20%) will be further divided into 10% and 10%. The former 10% will come from weeks 2-8, and the latter 10% will come from weeks 10-17. These percentages will be based on English Corner attendance and/or Reading for Pleasure. During weeks 2-8, students must find, read, and complete a follow-up assignment with two English books and attend 2 hours of English Corner classes. Each Pleasure Reading assignment will count as 3 points. Each English Corner class will count as 2 points. Therefore: 2 books x 3 points = 6 points + 2 English Corner classes x 2 points = 4 points. Six (6) plus four (4) is 10%/10points. The same procedure will be used for weeks 10-17. A total of 10 points for weeks 2-8 and 10 points for weeks 10-17 is a maximum of 20%/20points of student grade. The instructor will give additional explanations in class as needed.
Another twenty percent (20%) will be based on active student participation during class (12 points) and attendance in the GEPT/TOEIC classes. Each GEPT/TOEIC class will count as 2 points. Students must attend 2 classes during weeks 2-8 and 2 classes during weeks 10-17, totaling 8 points. Students are expected to participate in class by asking questions, answering questions and making comments. Attendance will also be considered in this portion of student grades. Failure to attend required GEPT/TOEIC courses will negatively affect the points earned by students in this category.
IT IS EACH STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO UNDERSTAND, FOLLOW, AND KEEP COPIES OF HIS/HER PARTICIPATION (Reading for Pleasure, English Corner, and GEPT/TOEIC Classes) AND PROCUDURES FOR ANY AND ALL ASPECTS OF HIS/HER GRADE.
