一、課程目標Course objectives: For each student to be able to discriminate between the consonant phonemes of English and the ability to pronounce each consonant correctly and to understand the stress and intonation patterns of English. In addition, students will be responsible for knowing the allophones of each phoneme and the phonetic features of each phoneme and allophone in order to aid in accurate pronunciation. Vowel phonemes will be reviewed as necessary.

三、授課方式Teaching approach: Instructor presentation of each consonant and consonant contrasts, including the varied manner each phoneme is pronounced, and also including a review of the various ways each phoneme is spelled. Selected sentences will be pronounce in unison by the class in buildup drills as well as selected phrases. Each student in every class period will be asked to pronounce minimal pairs, to make sentences out of phrases and to say the sentences (sometimes with the variation of uttering specially designed tongue twisters), paired students will be asked to present dialogues selected to emphasize the assigned phonemes.   

四、評量方式Grading criteria: 50% attendance / Participation / Exercises ; 25% Mid-term Exam; 50% Final Exam
