一、課程目標 Course objectives:
This course provides a critical introduction to the sources and evolution of Western Literature. This semester we will read passages from major works, including the Bible, Latin literature, and the two monuments of medieval literature, Dante's Divine Comedy and Boccaccio's Decameron.  We will also discuss how to do close, critical reading. The goal of the course is to provide students with a basic understanding of Western literature and culture and a foundation for required literature courses in the second and third years of the department's curriculum.

三、授課方式 Teaching approach:
Course activities will includes lectures, weekly reading assignments, weekly quizzes on the readings, one group presentation and supplementary audio visual materials. Regular attendance and pre-class preparation are essential.

Midterm 30%
Final 30%
Quizzes 30%
Attendance and participation 10%
