一、課程目標Course objectives:
This course provides a critical introduction to the sources and evolution of Western Literature. This semester we will read passages from major works, including classical epic, drama, and prose, and the Bible.  We will also discuss how to do close, critical reading. The goal of the course is to provide students with a basic understanding of Western literature and culture and a foundation for required literature courses in the second and third years of the department's curriculum.

Course activities will includes lectures, weekly reading assignments, weekly quizzes on the readings, one group presentation and supplementary audio visual materials. Regular attendance and pre-class preparation are essential.

Presentation 10%
Quizzes 15%
Attendance and participation 25%
